Enhanced Septic System Treatment

ClearPod – Testing a performance evaluation carried out by University of Guelph

  1. How do I improve the performance of my septic system?
  2. How do I make sure my septic system is not going to fail?
  3. Is my septic system is contaminating local ground water?

Why choose ClearPod

At ClearPod we have developed a low-cost, wastewater treatment solution that can be added to an existing septic tank to boost system performance. The ClearPod uses an aerobic, fixed film treatment process that increases the performance of the system by reducing soluble BOD concentrations in the wastewater effluent. By reducing the levels of contaminants leaving the septic tank you can restore failing septic systems. Reducing contaminants reaching a dispersal field will reduce bio-mat formation and restore water percolation.

US EPA reports that approximately 25% of North American households (an estimated 60 million people rely on septic systems to treat wastewater. Approximately 10% of these (~ 6 million) suffer from failure in any given year. For the individual homeowner the cost of replacing a failing septic system can be a real issue with replacement tanks and leach-fields costing upwards of $30,000.

The current study was carried by the Ontario Rural Wastewater Centre through the University of Guelph to characterize the performance of a standard septic system incorporating a ClearPod aeration treatment unit. This study was carried out over a 3.5 month period and demonstrated BOD5 effluent concentrations significantly lower than those typically reported for standard septic system technology, with the final month of operation demonstrating 78% removal and an average effluent of 62 mg/L. The average TSS concentration of 64 mg/L recorded through-out the study, translating to a 78% removal rate.

This is the first 3rd party study carried out on the ClearPod technology and has allowed the team to optimize and improve aspects of the technology.
